morrissey's hearing aid

Okay, so I've heard several theories about why Morrissey wore that hearing aid for The Smiths' performance of Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now on Top of the Pops.

Does anyone really know his reasons for doing that?

The story that's been circulated - and the one I read in an interview - is that Morrissey wore it as a tribute to a young fan who was deaf or losing his hearing.

If true, that is very cool.

truth is, he wears it constantly so that he can here me all the way in dallas, weeping quietly because he is not by my side.......

I didn't know that! I was probably too distracted by the outfit he wore in that video to notice...:)

Funny that. Jarvis Cocker from the band Pulp has been known to wear a hearing aid as a sign of solidarity with deaf people. I didn't know Morrissey did it first.
